Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024

Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 for singers is an international singing competition that will take place from 19 to 20 September 2024 at the Ehrbar Palais in Vienna. This competition offers talented singers from all over the world the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of a renowned jury and win major prizes. The competition is open to professional singers as well as advanced vocal students aged 18 to 45.

The competition is divided into three exciting rounds. In the first round, which takes place online, participants submit their documents and recordings for evaluation. These materials are reviewed by an experienced jury. Successful applicants will be invited to the second round, which will be held on-site in Vienna on September 19, 2024. This round offers participants the opportunity to showcase their skills live. The final round on September 20, 2024, is also the concluding gala concert and will be held in front of an audience.

Participants must submit a resume, a recent photo, recordings of two different arias, and a copy of their passport or ID card during registration. A participation fee of 50 euros is also required at the time of registration. The registration deadline is September 5, 2024. The second round will take place in the historic Ehrbar Palais in Vienna, a venue with excellent acoustics and a long history as a centre for musical events. The 24 participants in the second round will perform live in front of the jury to qualify for the final.

About the competition

Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 for Singers was founded to promote young talents in classical music and offer them an international platform.

The competition was born out of the vision to further strengthen Vienna as a musical center and to celebrate Beethoven's influence on music history. Each year, singers from various countries compete in a fair and challenging environment. In addition to the performances, participants benefit from networking opportunities and masterclasses offered by leading experts.

PARTICIPATE

Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 for Singers is open to professional singers and advanced vocal students aged 18 to 45.

Application:

Applications must be submitted online via the official competition website. The following documents must be submitted:

Application form
Consent form
Curriculum vitae with musical career
Current artistic photo
Video recording of two different arias
Four arias with sheet music (to be performed during the competition; the repertoire cannot be changed after submission of the application)
Copy of passport or identity card

Participation fee:

The participation fee of €50 must be paid after registration. Registration will only be processed once payment has been received. An invoice will be issued upon registration and is due immediately. Optionally, you can send a confirmation of the transfer via email to rechnung@beethoven.institute to receive confirmation of participation in Round 1. Please note that you are required to pay the fee from the moment you register to participate. In case of cancellation, the fee is non-refundable (except in the case of illness, for which we ask you to provide a medical certificate). Non-participation, non-payment of the invoice, and other cases do not release you from your obligations and entail financial responsibility. If you are admitted to the second round, an additional €50 fee is required.

Obligations of the participants:

Participants are obliged to submit all required documents by the deadline.

Participants must perform all the works required in the competition by heart.

The selected participants must be present in Vienna from September 19 to 20 for the second round onwards.

Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs (we do not give advice on travel and accommodation).

Participants must adhere to the specified schedule and the instructions of the organiser.

Important information:

The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the competition schedule and commits to informing the participants in a timely manner.

The organiser does not accept any liability for damage or loss incurred by participants during their travel, stay or during the competition.

By submitting the applications, participants agree that audio, photo and video recordings of their performances may be made as part of the competition and used by the organiser for promotional purposes.

All decisions of the jury are final and incontestable.

Important notes:

All participants must be available in Vienna for the duration of the competition.
The detailed schedule of rehearsals and performances will be announced on-site.
Participants will be informed in case of a change in the schedule.

Prizes of the Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 for singers

Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 for singers awards prizes totaling €6,000, as well as additional valuable performance opportunities and invitations to masterclasses. The prizes are distributed as follows:

1st Place:
Prize money: 3.000 euro

2nd Place:
Prize money: 2.000 euro

3rd Place:
Prize money: 1.000 euro

Solo concert at Ehrbar Hall, offered by Vienna Beethoven Concert

To perform with orchestral accompaniment on 20 September 2024

All finalists will receive certificates and recommendations confirming their participation in the Vienna Beethoven Competition 2024 and recognising their musical achievements.
